ENHANCED PROJECT BY-LAW SCHEME

The Enhanced Project By-Law Scheme is aimed at manufacturers who have an eligible project with project expenditure on eligible goods of $10 million or more. The scheme provides duty free entry of eligible goods for major investment projects in mining, resource processing, food processing, food packaging, manufacturing, agriculture, water supply, power supply, and gas supply industries. However, businesses must then commit to providing more opportunities for local businesses to participate for example in the construction of parts from the imported raw materials. The estimated value (of duty forgone) for 2009-10 is $60 million.

TRADEX

Tradex is aimed at Australian export and import businesses to provide financial relief through an upfront exemption from customs duty and GST. The payment on the exempted imported goods is paid upfront, which can provide significant cash-flow benefits. However, the exempt imported goods are required to be exported or to be used as inputs (components) to exports. The AusIndustry Tradex program in 2009-10 provides assistance to Australian businesses valued at $80M with GST and customs duty exemptions up to $145M.
