Economic Team

No one knows Wagga Wagga better than the 26 members of Wagga Wagga City Council's Commercial and Economic Directorate. They are passionate about what they do and take great pride in their work of championing the city and the Riverina region.

The Directorate takes a fully integrated approach to economic development combining the resources of three key operations:

  • Economic Development;

  • Council Business and

  • Property Management; and

  • Tourism.

This integrated approach is designed to provide assistance to people wishing to expand or establish new business in the city. The team has close links with other Council directorates in particular Community, Environment and Planning which has resulted in a number of positive outcomes for new businesses moving to the city.

Peter Adams - Director Commercial & Economic Development Peter Adams

Peter joined Wagga Wagga City Council on Monday 7 February. Peter brings particular experience in assisting commercial firms to thrive in regional areas and using technology to devise business solutions.

Former Director for abmg Advisory Services and Research Fellow at Charles Sturt University, Peter is currently completing his PhD on the topic of the adoption of technology by households and the link to the provision of high speed broadband.

Peter has a commitment to research and innovation that will ensure the continued success of Council's Commercial and Economic Development Directorate.

James Davis - Manager, Economic Development

James has worked in Local Government for nineteen years and in private enterprise for eight.  He holds a Master in Planning and in recent years has enjoyed the benefits of attending the Australian Graduate School of Management, Advanced Development Program.  Another aspect to James' portfolio was a presentation to the International Planning Congress in Wellington New Zealand on how improvement to social amenity and infrustructure can inspire economic and community development.

James sees Local Government as a catalyst for capacity building in social, economic and environmental partnership projects.

Sally Nolan - Manager, Tourism Marketing

Sally demonstrates a range of personal attributes that include a passion for Wagga Wagga and Regional Tourism, enthusiasm, networking and effective communication at all levels, approachability, thinking outside the square and going the "extra mile".

Sally was directly involed and participated in Riverina Regional Tourism's advertising campaign in 1999 - 2001 as well as being involved in the promotion of Riverina Regional Tourism's Tech and Ag Tours when it was first introduced.

Grant Johnson - Manager, Council Business

Grant joined Council in September 2007 after a successful career in private and commercial business. He is passionate about the future of our city and the region. The opportunity the Wagga Wagga Airport and Livestock Marketing Centre brings to the City can only enhance its image and reputation. These two roles form a significant part of the Directorate's activities and Grant's commercial and financial background are a potent combination for success.
