RIVERINA OILS & BIO ENERGY (ROBE)
The largest value adding agriculture investment in Australia is now in Wagga Wagga.
Riverina Oils & Bio Energy Pty Ltd (ROBE) in September 2009 established a 500 tonnes per day oilseed crushing and edible oil refining (170,000 tonnes/year) plant at the Bomen Industrial Estate, Wagga Wagga.
In Stage One, this project plans to produce 105,000 tonnes per annum of vegetable protein meal used in poultry, dairy and in animal feed industry plus 65,000 tonnes per annum of refined vegetable oil for the food manufacturing and food service / retail industry. The oilseeds used in the plant are Canola, Safflower, Cottonseed, Soybean and Sunflower.
The second stage of the project expands the capacity by 100% to produce up to 75 million litres / annum of biodiesel at the same site in Bomen. This second stage is proposed for development when market demand for biodiesel dictates.
In terms of investment, the Stage One project costs is A$63 million (which includes A$45 million of project construction costs as well as A$18 million of working capital). Annual revenues generated at the full oilseed crushing and refining capacity are expected to exceed A$125 million. The multiplier effects of the project include:
-
Up to 250 construction jobs between May 09 and October 10;
-
65 direct jobs in Stage One and up to 100 direct jobs in Stage Two, in addition to significant indirect job creation;
-
Over A$20 million to the Riverina region through capital purchases and project construction expenditure;
-
Incremental requirement of over 100,000 tonnes of oilseed (planting of 75,000 hectares) in the Riverina region alone, providing farmers with an alternative cropping option;
-
Export of oil to India and Asia, with potential to generate revenues up to A$100 Million plus in the first 5 years of production;
-
Opportunity for the project to act as a catalyst for further development around its location, including the facilitation of rail development; and
-
The project's status as the only oilseed crushing (solvent extraction) and refining project in the country.
