Minister for Regional Australia, Simon Crean was in Wagga yesterday and pledged $11.5 million to the new Promoting Regional Living scheme designed to draw city residents to regional areas. Evocities was born in Wagga and sees seven cities market themselves to Sydneysiders in the hope of enticing them to regional hubs. The Daily Advertiser, Saturday 14 May, 2011

Last week Simon Crean, the Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development & Local Government visited Wagga. While he was here he announced on our local ABC Riverina Radio that the Evocities project will go national.

The Minister stated that the Evocity program has been so effective to date that the government are providing extra funding to go national. Mr Crean said "the cities are saying; we're too congested, we don't need more people. The regions are saying, we want more people. We're great cities in which to live. Just come and look at us. The Budget Committee has recognised the success of it and the importance of enabling regions to better promote their capacity for job and economic diversity as well as livability.
