What are the effects of the Mill construction project on the Wagga Wagga Economy?

350 jobs will be generated as a result of the Mill development proceeding. The Mill development along Edward Street finally seems to be on its way. A significant development such as this is good news. Firstly, it enhances the City's appearance to visitors and residents and secondly, it's a source of job creation. Construction activity will always create employment but then there's also Mill operating staff and jobs created across Wagga Wagga to service the Mill development itself.
Recently the Daily Advertiser ran an article regarding the Murrumbidgee Mill Site located at 50-82 Edward Street in Central Wagga Wagga. The article quotes Trojan Pty. Ltd. General Manager Mr Paul Piercy who estimates that during the peak of construction up to 150 employees will be working on the site. The effect of such a large project will be substantial for not only those directly employed on the site, but also the rest of the Wagga Wagga economy.
Remplan an economic modelling software utilised by the Wagga Wagga City Council's Commercial and Economic Development Directorate to analyse the local economy predicted that an additional expansion in the economy with direct flow-on industrial effects in terms of local purchases of goods and services would result in the gaining of a further 122 jobs. Furthermore, the increase in direct and indirect output and the corresponding creation of additional jobs in the economy are expected to result in an increase in the wages and salaries paid to employees. A proportion of these wages and salaries are typically spent on consumption and a proportion of this expenditure is captured in the local economy. The consumption effects under this scenario are estimated to further boost employment by 72 jobs. Total employment, including all direct, industrial and consumption effects is estimated to increase by up to 344 jobs.
