MEDIA RELEASE - Wagga Wagga City Council appoints General Manager
Wagga Wagga City Council has appointed Mr Phil Pinyon to the position of General Manager.
"I am pleased to announce that after an extensive search and interview process, Councillors last night made a unanimous decision to offer Mr Pinyon the position of General Manager," said Mayor of Wagga Wagga, Cr Kerry Pascoe.
Mr Pinyon will commence as General Manager at Wagga Wagga City Council in February 2010. "Mr Pinyon has an outstanding Local Government career, most recently serving as General Manager for two large regional New South Wales councils," continued Mayor Pascoe. "His experience, and dedication to serving the community through local government was very apparent throughout the interview process and I am confident Mr Pinyon will be a great fit for Council and the City."
Mr Pinyon's career follows a progressive development throughout Local Government including his most recent role as General Manager at Blue Mountains City Council. Prior to this, he has held the position of General Manager at Greater Taree City Council and senior executive roles at Hornsby Shire Council, Toowoomba City Council, Tamworth City Council and Jabiru Town Council.
Mr Pinyon will move to Wagga Wagga with his wife, Debbie.
The position of General Manager was advertised nationally during November, with 20 applications received for the position. A selection panel, comprising of Mayor Kerry Pascoe, Deputy Mayor Lindsay Vidler, Cr Donna Argus, Cr Yvonne Braid and Cr Wayne Geale, generated a shortlist of candidates from the applications, with all Councillors interviewing the final two candidates at a Confidential meeting of Council last night.
"I'd like to acknowledge the valuable professional support and assistance provided to Councillors during the interview process by Judy Galloway, Executive Director of Sureway Employment and Training Pty Ltd in her role as an independent advisor," said Mayor Pascoe.
The appointment has been made under a standard five year contract, as required by the Department Local Government.
