Port of Melbourne fit nicely into Bomen Business Park Model
The Port of Melbourne Corporation has spent $1B enhancing the shipping access from Port Phillip Bay to Port of Melbourne docks. The sea channel now has a draught of 11.2m which is deep enough to take larger shipping vessels now being used around the world.
On a recent visit to Melbourne, Wagga Wagga City Council's Manager Economic Development, James Davis, met with representatives from the Port of Melbourne, Alan White, National Intermodal Manager, and Chris Ryan, Business Development Manager, to discuss how the Bomen Business Park fits with Port of Melbourne's strategic thinking. Endorsing the momentum Bomen has achieved recently the Port of Melbourne have announced the appointment of a Business Development Manager to the Riverina Murray Region to assist businesses who export products.
The Port of Melbourne is one of the top 50 containerised Ports in the world. It handles 3500 ships each year and every week the cargo loaded off and on has a value of $1.8B.
The Port of Melbourne manages 100,000 hectares of waterway and owns 500 hectares of land that is currently handling 2 million TEU containers/annum which will increase to 8 million by 2035.
