PREMIER ANNOUNCES $2.5 MILLION FOR BOMEN BUSINESS PARK
NSW News Release, 11 September 2009
NSW Premier Nathan Rees today announced that the NSW Government will invest in a vital infrastructure project expected to bring $13.8 million in business investment to Bomen Industrial Park, and create up to 165 jobs.
Mr Rees, who is travelling to Wagga Wagga this afternoon, said the NSW Government would jointly fund the $5 million cost of building an alternative route to the Industrial Park in partnership with Wagga Wagga City Council.
"The NSW Government is committing $2.5 million towards this infrastructure project which is linked to a number of other business projects that will go ahead once the road has been constructured," Mr Rees said.
"Supporting this project will help attract $131.8 million in private investment to Bomen Industrial Park, creating 165 new jobs over five years.
"There are already 44 existing bsuinesses located at Bomen Industrial Park, employing 1,469 people that will benefit from improved road access to the site.
"We estimate the construction of the road, and the construction and operation of the linked business projects to contribute $181 million to the State's economy over five years."
Duty MLC Tony Catanzariti said the announcement was a welcome investment in the Wagga Wagga community.
"This Government is very focussed on supporting projects that underpin jobs in regional areas. Securing funding to open up Bomen Industrial Park for more investment, and that means more jobs for local families."
Wagga Wagga City Council Mayor Kerry Pascoe said the funding will mean Council can proceed with the first stage of a wider infrastructure development project for Bomen Industrial Park.
"Wagga Wagga City Council has taken the lead in establishin the Bomen Industrial Park as an attractive base for national and international businesses.
"By the end of this year we will have finalised the Bomen Master Plan and today's announcement not only endorses our approach but signals a critcal step in being able to attract further investment. An inter-model road and rail hub are fundamental to future growth at the Park," Councillor Pascoe said.
Wagga Wagga City Council is being assisted by the NSW Government through its Local Infrastructure Support Fund.
