WELCOMED TO WAGGA

More than 30 of Wagga's newest residents were welcomed to their new city with a meet and greet at Wagga's Civic Theatre on Thursday 17 February 2011.

The function was well attended by councillors, council staff and local business representatives who were invited as mentors for the new residents. Kapooka's newest Commandant Colonel David Hay was present as a new resident with his wife Carol and their four children, Angus, Madelaine, Gabby and Hamish.

Several new residents had moved form larger centres including Sydney, could it be a sign that the much-hyped Evocities has taken effect? Carolyn Hodder moved to Wagga from Canberra with her doctor husband about a year ago, attracted by the surgical training they offer here. She said that they were "very happy" to have made the move becuase the city had "a great community feel".

Mr Steven Cottom from Beyond Dynamics gave a speech on his life in Wagga. Mr Cottom has been a resident in Wagga Wagga for approximately 16 years and has recently started his own business managing Segways.

The next Welcome to Wagga event will be held on Thursday 12 May, and local business representatives are invited to contact Ms Vanessa Stanley business@wagga.nsw.gov.au if they are interested in coming along as a Wagga Wagga mentor.
