Women in Business Wagga Wagga
Women in Business was formed when a need for a women's business and networking group was identified. A number of local business and professional women gathered on 12 November 2003 to identify the objectives of such a group and it was agreed they would become an Incorporated body. The organisation was officially launched by the Hon Kay Hull MP, former Member for Riverina on 25 February 2004.
With almost 60 members, Women in Business aims to provide women throughout the Riverina a networking opportunity to form both business and personal relationships. Women in Business also provides women with mentoring and professional skills development opportunities through regular functions and events.
Women in Business functions are held bi-monthly. With prominent guest speakers, Women in Business functions are always held at new and interesting local venues with variations from formal seated meals to cocktail style canapé evenings. All functions and events are undertaken in an inclusive, welcoming and supportive manner. Guest speakers share their stories from both a professional and personal perspective and express how they manage that work/life balance, enlightening attendees and allowing celebration of inspirational women.
Mackenna Powell is the President of Women in Business and a strong advocate for the group. Raised on a property west of Wagga Wagga, she completed a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) through Charles Sturt University, whilst working on a full time basis. Mackenna then furthered her studies by completing the CPA program, with advancement to CPA status in 2008. Mackenna joined WDF Professional in early 2009 and has been in public practice in the Wagga Wagga area since 2001.
"As President of Women in Business, I am always interested in meeting new people and enjoy the professional and social networking opportunities that Women in Business functions offer".
"Our next function is to be held on Tuesday 12th of April at Uneke, and as a change of pace we have arranged a presentation from a professional makeup artist who has worked on many Hollywood films and Australian television series. We are looking forward to a light hearted evening with opportunities for networking."
The June function will be focusing on professional development, with a banquet menu at the Indian Tandoori restaurant and a presentation from a local solicitor who is a member of Women in Business. In this presentation, the group will look at business structures and succession planning.
The annual Women in Business Gala Dinner -Celebrating Inspirational Women will be held on 2 September 2011. The inaugural gala dinner was held in 2010, and was very well received. With fabulous guest speakers and entertainment provided, the 2011 dinner is sure to be another very successful and enjoyable evening. This event is open to all members of the community and not just women.
